A comprehensive overview of the visual arts from the 1940's to the present, designed to help students understand the cultural, social, and historical dynamics that influence artistic creation, and reflect upon the artists' role in contemporary societies.

Learning Outcomes

1Identify individuals who have made a major contribution to a style or period.

2Compare artworks by identifying their differences and similarities.

3Define terms and concepts in relation to a particular style, artist, or artwork.

4Discuss historical events, social forces, and cultural trends that have had an influence on a particular style, artist, or artwork.

5Develop analytical and writing skills through textual studies of primary and secondary sources, as well as written exercises.
