Spring 2026 Lecture Upper DivisionThis course will focus on the fundamentals of plant cellular and developmental biology. Topics to be covered include: the structure and function of plant organelles and membranes; the cell cycle; DNA, RNA and protein synthesis; the secretory pathway, and the cellular basis of development and whole plant morphogenesis.
Learning Outcomes1Understand the organization of plant genomes and cells.
2Know how plant organs, tissues and cells are organized.
3Know how a plant cell secretes proteins.
4Know the mechanism of protein degradation and why it is a key aspect of developmental pathways.
5Know the function of each plant hormone, understand where and how it is made, and most importantly, how that hormone exerts its influence.
6Feel confident entering a graduate-level course in plant molecular, cellular or developmental biology.
