Spring 2026 LectureModels and model-data fit, estimation of ability and item parameters, item and test information, test construction, obtaining evidence of test reliability and validity, differential item functioning, norming, and equating. Prerequisite: EDPS 53100, (PSY 60100 or STAT 50200 or 51200).
Learning Outcomes1Explain fundamental item response theory concepts and terminology.
2Distinguish and select from among 1-, 2-, and 3- parameter item response models for dichotomous data in practical situations.
3Demonstrate familiarity with the graded response and partial credit item response models for polytomous data, and multidimensional item response models.
4Use item response models for testing applications, such as item calibration during instrument/item pool development, estimation of person parameters and conditional standard errors of measurement, investigation of differential item functions, and score linking.
5Conduct item response modeling with specialized software and interpret the results.
