Spring 2024 Lecture Upper DivisionOrigin and evolution of radar. Modern weather radar systems and their component parts. Propagation of microwave energy in the atmosphere. Rayleigh and Mie scattering theory, with application to scattering by precipitation. Utilization of radar systems in forecasting quantitative analyses and cloud physics research. Recent refinement and future potential. Prior coursework in synoptic meteorology labs and atmospheric physics is required.
