Spring 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionCloud and precipitation physics and basic atmospheric radiative transfer. Introduction to computer-aided problem solving.
Learning Outcomes1Understand the basic physics of cloud and precipitation formation and evolution in the atmosphere and their connections to atmospheric thermodynamics and dynamics.
2Describe these processes qualitatively and solve associated problems quantitatively.
3Describe and explain the observed microphysical structure of various precipitation systems (such as squall lines, hailstorms, supercells, frontal rainbands, and others).
4Understand the basics of how cloud and precipitation processes are represented in numerical models.
5Demonstrate a basic knowledge of various remote sensing methods.
