Spring 2025 Distance Learning Laboratory Upper DivisionApplication of computer analysis techniques including error analysis, line and surface fitting, spatial and temporal correlations, contouring, interpolation, and map projections. These methods are discussed in terms of specific geologic applications. All exercises and examples are developed using commercial mathematical software package. A three-hour-per-week computer laboratory tutorial provides hands-on experience with the techniques discussed in class. Prior course work in computer programming is required.
Learning Outcomes1Carry out computational solutions to a given range of data analysis problems.
2Select the appropriate analysis and visualization approaches when given a set of data.
3Appraise and conclude the analysis results professionally.
