Teaching students with special needs requires the ability to locate evidence-based interventions, implement those interventions with fidelity, and track student performance over time. Mathematics is a content area in which success or failure yields major ramifications for postsecondary success. This course will cover the common math interventions employed for mild to severe disabilities across grade levels K-12.

Learning Outcomes

1Develop standards-based lesson plans for math that consider individual abilities, interests, learning environments, and cultural and linguistic factors.

2Use technologies to support instructional assessment, planning, and delivery of mathematics for individuals with exceptionalities.

3Identify strategies for teaching to mastery and promote generalization of learning in mathematics for both fluency and world problem solving.

4Produce standards-based lesson plans for numeracy that incorporate evidence-based practices, classroom resources (e.g. peer and paraprofessional), and technological supports for use with students who have diverse learning needs.
