Spring 2025 Instructors:

Students will learn strategies for communicating and collaborating with a variety of team members. Finally culture will be explored. Strategies for collaborating with family members, administrators, paraprofessionals and related service personnel will be explored. This course includes a field experience.

Learning Outcomes

1Differentiate between professional and personal perspectives that impact teamwork and collaboration.

2Describe how cultural values, context (e.g., social expectations, home language, resources, etc.), and experiences impact families' educational involvement and student learning.

3Describe the additional roles and potential stressors families of children with disabilities may experience.

4Identify strategies and steps for developing home-school partnerships and facilitating communication with families and school personnel.

5Identify roles and responsibilities of key members (e.g., speech, school counselor, general education, paraeducator, etc.) of the educational team.

6Outline and describe strategies (e.g., collaborative goal setting, coteaching, planning, etc.) for training and problem solving.
