Spring 2025 Laboratory Lecture Upper DivisionThis course presents a developmental, child-centered approach to the guidance and discipline of young children, including children with disabilities. Influential theories, relevant research, and effective guidance methods for the early childhood teachers and other professionals working with young children and families, including families from different cultural and economic backgrounds, are discussed. Admitted to Gate B.
Learning Outcomes1Understand the primary components of child guidance at different developmental stages.
2Plan and implement developmentally appropriate methods of child guidance and discipline.
3Understand the influential theoretical perspectives of child guidance/discipline.
4Modify expectations and guidance strategies appropriately for children with diverse abilities, family demographic characteristics, and cultural backgrounds.
5Promote and create environments and lessons that prevent challenging behaviors.

7Increase understanding and skills surrounding effective communication with children and parents about child guidance.
