Spring 2026 Laboratory Lecture Lower DivisionIntroductory course in insect cell biology, biochemistry, and physiology including structures and functions of insect internal and external tissues and organs. A year of college biology or equivalent knowledge is expected.
Learning Outcomes1Understand (i) the structure and functions of insect cells, the major internal organ systems of insects, the insect integument, and homeostatic mechanisms; (ii) insect development and reproduction, and their endocrine control; and (iii) the neural mechanisms that underlie the interactions of insects with their environment and coordinated behavior.
2Understand the physical and chemical principles underpinning animal physiology.
3Understand the dependence of function on structure in physiology and biochemistry.
4Acquire familiarity with commonly used experimental procedures for research in insect physiology and biochemistry.
