Spring 2025 Instructors:

This course is about using anthropology to make projects work. Students will learn anthropological approaches and methods to discover salient aspects of a design problem and use this understanding to devise responses. Anthropological discovery, design and delivery processes are demonstrated. Students should have some background in anthropology if coming from another discipline e.g. prior coursework or relevant experience as determined by instructor.

Learning Outcomes

1Be able to use Rapid Assessment Procedures (RAP), the Delphi Technique, Domain Analysis and Cross-Cultural Survey Design.

2Understand how community projects are put together from goals and objectives, strategies implementation plans and monitoring and evaluation and be able to use that knowledge in effectively designing projects.

3Write a funding proposal that clearly explains the purpose, impact, and essential features of the project in order to secure funding or other essential support.

4Apply the skills of anthropological discovery and design in your own practice area of interest.
