Spring 2025 Lecture Distance Learning Upper DivisionThis course is an introduction to the primate order and primate studies. The emphasis is on field studies. Ecological influences on social organization and behavior, learning, play, and communication will be considered as adaptations within an evolutionary framework.
Learning Outcomes1Understand the diversity of anatomical and behavioral traits in primates, and how that diversity is taxonomically organized.
2Describe the science of primatology, critically evaluate scientific research on primates, and contextualize primatology within Anthropology and closely related fields.
3Communicate an understanding of the relationships among primates and their ecosystems as well as the ecological, evolutionary, and social forces that shape their lives.
4Appreciate the complexities of the work of preserving and managing primate populations.
