Spring 2026 Lecture Upper DivisionMajor questions in biochemistry and contemporary approaches to these problems. Material covered in class will primarily be derived from primary literature. Students will continue to develop the skills needed to critically read, evaluate, and assimilate the primary scientific literature.
Learning Outcomes1Understand the molecular principles of life based on the core disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
2Understand the scientific method.
3Develop hypotheses, design experiments and critically analyze results to create new knowledge.
4Acquire information literacy: the ability to locate, evaluate and utilize information in the disciplines of biochemistry and molecular biology that is required for research, data analysis and communication.

6Understand the contribution of our discipline to society, including improvements to medicine, agriculture, the economy and the environment.
