Fall 2025 Laboratory Lecture Distance Learning Lower DivisionThis course provides experience in the development of model-based product definition through the use of contemporary modeling tools and the application of ASME dimensional standards. This course also covers product data exchange and interoperability standards from the perspective of neutral and proprietary data formats and models. Long-term archival concepts are also covered.
Learning Outcomes1Explain the significance of 2D and 3D CAD model standards relative to industrial practice.
2Describe the elements and process of 3D model-based definition.
3Incorporate model-based definition techniques into the CAD model database and technical documentation when creating geometry.
4Implement modeling techniques that support long-term archival of product data.
5Develop standard parts libraries which incorporate industrial standard parts specifications.
6Select appropriate file format(s) for the communication of CAD data through different toolsets and data exchange media.
7Develop basic literacy in interpreting technical documentation.
