War has been a central component of U.S. statecraft from the war of independence through the war on terror. This lecture class examines the complicated relationship between technology and war from the colonial period through the present day.
Learning Outcomes1Gain understanding about the importance of technologies to the development of techniques of war in the context of U.S. history.
2Contemplate the role of technology in shaping society and of society in shaping technology.
3Consider ethical questions about the use and effects of technologies in war.
4Sharpen critical analytical, reading, and writing skills.
