Spring 2025 Instructors:

This course explores the central issues and themes of American foreign relations during the twentieth century with a primary focus on the expansion of American political military, economic, and cultural power.

Learning Outcomes

1Understand how and why the United States transformed from a relatively minor regional power in the nineteenth century into the global power we recognize today.

2Understand innovative ways in which historians are expanding our understanding of Americans' role in the world.

3Understand the often competing and conflicting nature of historical interpretation and encourage assessment of various forms of primary source evidence to form conclusions about the United States' place and experience in the world.
