Spring 2026 Lecture Credit By ExaminationLower DivisionA study of music theory from the late Romantic era through current practice. Students may be asked to compose works in a variety of styles that include late Romanticism, Impressionism, Neoclassicism, Atonality, Pointillism, Minimalism, Sound-Mass Composition, Indeterminacy, Ambient music, Graphic Notation and Neoromanticism.
Learning Outcomes1Demonstrate a theoretical understanding of harmonic practice from the Late Romantic Era through the contemporary period.
2Analyze the structural elements of music from the Late Romantic Era through the contemporary period.
3Produce original compositions in the styles associated with the Late Romantic Era through the contemporary period.
