Summer 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionExamines wellness and health promotion issues unique to children from birth through adolescence. Concepts of growth and development are integrated into health promotion activities. Legal and ethical issues related to practice with children and adolescents are addressed. Evidence-based practice standards will be utilized.
Learning Outcomes1Complete comprehensive assessments of the developmental level and health status of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
2Analyze developmental, physiological, psychological, and sociocultural factors that influence the health of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults and their health promotion/maintenance behaviors.
3Use TouchpointsTM to work with parents to promote growth and development of infants and children.
4Use evidence-based practice standards in the promotion of the health of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
5Use state and national health promotion initiatives targeted for pediatric populations.
6Integrate knowledge of developmental and cultural issues in promoting and maintaining health of a pediatric population through anticipatory guidance, teaching, counseling, and appropriate referral.
7Assist children and their families to integrate health promotion strategies into self-care.
8Discuss ethical, financial, quality, policy and legal issues related to the health care of infants, children, adolescents, young adults.
9Analyze unique health promotion needs of diverse pediatric populations.
10Identify primary, secondary and tertiary prevention strategies to improve quality of life for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
