Summer 2025 Lecture Distance Learning Upper DivisionSigns and symptoms of all major psychiatric disorders and the medications used to treat them across the life-span are discussed. Classes of psychiatric medications are considered; including indications, therapeutic uses, neurophysiological mechanism of action and side effects.
Learning Outcomes1Identify mechanism of action, indication, side effect profile and application to practice with children, adolescents, adults and older adults with psychiatric disorders of all major classes of psychiatric medications.
2Apply principles of neurophysiological mechanisms of action, side effects, and clinical indication of specific psychotropic medications in the treatment of children, adolescents, adults and older adults with psychiatric disorders.
3Synthesize clinical and diagnostic data to formulate, implement and evaluate clinical application of psychopharmacology in children, adolescents, adults and older adults with psychiatric disorders.
4Identify barriers to treatment, recognize clinical implications and implement strength-based plan for intervention.
5Incorporate relevant research in clinical application of psychotropic medications.
