This is the second course in a series providing an overview of clinical approaches to common medical diseases of dogs and cats. A systems approach is used to teach the major concepts of diseases affecting each body system. The focus of this course is disease recognition based on initial medical information (ex. signalment, presenting complaint, physical examination), diagnosis, and treatment of common diseases encountered in small animal clinical practice.

Learning Outcomes

1Develop a problem-based approach to common medical diseases in the dog and cat.

2List clinical signs for common medical diseases in the dog and cat.

3Create a differential diagnoses list after integrating initial medical information.

4Describe the diagnostic approach to common medical diseases in the dog and cat.

5Analyze initial medical information and diagnostics and differentiate between common medical diseases in the dog and cat.

6Describe treatment options for common medical diseases of the dog and cat and the advantages and disadvantages of each option.
