Spring 2025 LecturePrinciples of medical virology and discussions of important viral diseases of animals.
Learning Outcomes1Know the definition of the diseases.
2Describe brief history of the disease including current geographical distribution and importance.
3Describe the virus as to classification, host range, important aspects of replication, and resistance to environment.
4Outline the signs of the disease.
5Understand pathogenesis, distribution and fate of virus, immunological responses.
6Provide description of important gross and histological lesions that may explain pathogenesis.
7Understand methods used to make presumptive and specific diagnoses.
8Describe epidemiology - important methods of spread, vectors if involved, seasonality, etc.
9Describe immunity - as it relates to vaccination, types of vaccines, and their use.
10Recognize public health significance, if any.
11Control of the disease including area (state, national, or international) control programs and "on the farm" control where pertinent.
