The lecture portion provides an introduction to bacterial and fungal agents of animal diseases. The taxonomy, morphology, and physiology of the organisms are discussed. Pathogenic features of the infectious agents and host responses to infection will be emphasized. Epidemiology, diagnosis, and control of the various diseases will be presented. The laboratory portion of the course covers laboratory safety, sterilization and disinfection in addition to microbiological techniques, antimicrobial susceptibility testing and interpretation, and identification of cultured bacteria and dermatophytes.
