Summer 2025 Laboratory Lecture Upper DivisionThis course aims to provide students with advanced psychomotor skills in athletic training, such as wound closure, orthopedic casting, orthotic fabrication, biometrics and other emerging techniques and technologies. Skill integration into practice will be considered and practice act concerns will be discussed. Permission of department required.
Learning Outcomes1Recognize different types of wounds and which require advanced management, including wound closure.
2Compare wound closure techniques to determine appropriate applications.
3Summarize the differences between casting methods.
4Evaluate casting techniques relative to patient indications and pathology present.
5Explain the purpose of foot orthotics as related to the pathomechanical model.
6Apply wound closure techniques, orthopedic castings, and fabricate orthotics in simulated patients.
7Consider and summarize emerging technologies and practices in athletic training, such as the use of biometrics to determine use and efficacy in a clinical setting.
