Summer 2025 Lecture Distance LearningThis doctoral-level course critically examines the interconnected and interdependent world of international higher education through an intercultural lens. The course will employ a variety of critical theoretical perspectives (post-development, feminist, & equity frameworks as well as organizational/institutional models) to examine both the historical and contemporary developments in higher education throughout the globe. Topics will vary based on current issues but will center on the influences cultural, economic, political, & social factors have had on national and international higher education development. Permission of instructor required.
Learning Outcomes1Demonstrate knowledge of the interwoven concepts related to internationalization, globalization, and intercultural higher education.
2Explore a variety of literature on international and intercultural higher education, integrating literature from the field of higher education as well outside disciplines of business, political science, & sociology.
3Analyze a HEI's internationalization plans, intercultural activities/strategies and various influences on these based on HE theory, frameworks, and perspectives.
4Examine complex internationalization and intercultural issues from cultural, political and organizational perspectives - specifically the ability to conduct research and analysis using equity, feminist, post-colonialist and/or an organizational theory or framework.
5Develop skills to succinctly and professionally articulate analysis and synthesis of relevant empirical research and literature.
6Formulate and articulate rational arguments through discussions, peer discussion, and reflective and research writing.
7Apply theory to practice in a final internationalization case study project.
