Fall 2025 Lecture Practice Study Observation Lower DivisionA study of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and their simple derivatives in terms of (a) structure, bonding, etc.; (b) general syntheses and reactions; and (c) a logical modern rationale for fundamental phenomena as supported by reactivity orders, orientation effects, stereochemistry, and relative rates. Recommended for biology majors.
Learning Outcomes1Gain understanding of the fundamental principles of organic chemistry and to apply those principles to solve problems.
2Observe the world on a molecular level and to understand how organic chemistry applies to biology and everyday life.
3Understand at a fundamental level how molecules look and behave.
4Relate the structure and reactivity of molecules to observable physical/chemical properties.
5Describe Life Processes in terms of molecular phenomena.
