Fall 2026 Lecture Laboratory Lower DivisionDescriptive inorganic chemistry dealing in a systematic way with the elements and the structures, properties, and reactions of their compounds. Required of students majoring in chemistry.
Learning Outcomes1Understand the fundamental inorganic chemistry, including electronic structure of atoms and periodic trend; molecular orbital theory of small inorganic molecules, and symmetry and point groups of inorganic complexes.
2Understand the basics of crystal lattices, and metallic and binary ionic structures.
3Learn physical properties of inorganic systems, in the context of acid-base theories and redox reactions.
4Explore the descriptive chemistry of main group elements.
