Fall 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionA rigorous one-semester introduction to biochemistry, with in-depth coverage of biology at a molecular level. Topics covered include the classes of biological macromolecules, enzyme kinetics and inhibition, and significant metabolic pathways.
Learning Outcomes1Understand the defining features of all four classes of macromolecules (Nucleic acids, Proteins, Lipids and carbohydrates) in detail.
2Understand enzyme kinetics and various classes of inhibitors.
3Develop an understanding for various metabolic pathways including glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, the citric acid cycle, electron transport chain, oxidative phosphorylation, glycogen metabolism, glycogen metabolism at a cellular level in healthy and diseased patients.
4Able to predict biochemical outcome in case of specific defect in a pathway.
5Develop an in depth understanding of central foundations of biology at a molecular level.
