Fall 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionThis is an advanced ecology course that examines the ecological process and dynamics of populations, communities, and ecosystems. Topics include the physical, physiological, behavioral, and population genetic factors that influence how organisms interact with one another and their environment, the nature of population growth, and attributes of community structure. Course material integrates case studies from field and laboratory experiments, simulations, and theoretical models to understand life histories, species interactions, and community and ecosystem processes.
Learning Outcomes1Apply ecological principles to interpret patterns of abundance and distribution of organisms in natural systems.
2Critically evaluate the experimental design and data interpretation of ecological studies in the published literature.
3Communicate scientific ideas and results through discussions and written assignments.
