Spring 2026 Lecture Upper DivisionThis course covers modern principles for managing complex global aviation maintenance, ground and aerospace manufacturing operations. Particular emphasis is placed on "system-of-systems" and organizational resilience concepts in air vehicle lifecycle maintenance, aerospace manufacturing and airport surface/gate operations. Principles of Data Science, systems-thinking, process visualization, emerging technologies and modern workforce challenges and their impact on global sustainable airworthiness, safety, quality and performance reliability are covered in-depth.
Learning Outcomes1Compare/contrast historic versus modern day aviation operations management philosophies and the crucial role of the modern 5P operations management paradigm.
2Analyze and describe disruptive technology advances driving modern aviation and aerospace operations and the role of Data Science in air vehicle design and lifecycle management.
3Analyze the tightly coupled nature and system failure modes in high consequence aviation/aerospace operations.
4Apply System-of-Systems, Resilience Engineering, Safety II and other next generation operations management concepts to problem-based case studies and current issues in aviation and aerospace.
5Demonstrate understanding of aviation/aerospace industry workforce competency models including applied roles of innovation, teamwork and problem-solving.
