This course introduces fundamental concepts of autonomous aircraft technology and maintenance. Topics include history, airframe and powerplant selection, regulations governing uncrewed systems, airspace descriptions, safety, autonomous system programming and calibration, data package options, weather, system maintenance and repair, manual flight training, and aerodynamics and flight controls for autonomous aircraft.

Learning Outcomes

1Reflect on the history of UAS and project the future growth of UAS.

2Analyze data sources to determine flight feasibility and mitigate hazards.

3Collaborate effectively as a crew member both in the lab and in the field.

4Design and print flight ready 3D model.

5Assess airspace and flight feasibility by submission of FAA waiver application.

6Demonstrate effective design choices.
