The course focuses on employee-employer relations. Attention is given to topics in legal aspects of union organizing and collective bargaining, labor unions history and structure in the United States, labor management negotiations, dispute resolution procedures, international labor relations, and labor-management cooperation.

Learning Outcomes

1Summarize what unions do and why workers join labor unions.

2Explain how management can react when its workers decide to form a union.

3Execute the process of collective bargaining and summarize information typically contained in a collective bargaining agreement.

4Differentiate how disputes are resolved through mediation, arbitration, and other methods.

5Compare how labor-management relations in the USA are versus similar relationships in other countries around the world.
