Fall 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionThis course provides students with an overall understanding of typical speech and language development, and communication disorders, across cultural-linguistic groups and issues related to the assessment of and intervention with children from culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
Learning Outcomes1Describe typical speech and language development across cultural-linguistic groups.
2Develop skills for the formal and informal assessment of speech and language abilities of children speaking dialect(s), speaking more than one language, and/or speaking language(s) other than English.
3Describe approaches to assessment and intervention when clinicians do and do not speak the child's language(s).
4Begin to design intervention programs for infants and children who exhibit a range of communicative deficits, and who are from culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
