Reading, writing, and vocabulary building are emphasized throughout. The course also includes an introduction to Arab culture. No previous knowledge of Arabic required. Permission of department required.
Learning Outcomes1Identify, recognize, and produce correctly Arabic sounds and letters in aural and written texts.
2Demonstrate familiarity with the Arabic syntactic structures.
3Produce practical written information including completed forms, directions, and instructions on familiar topics.
4Demonstrate conversational skills including discussing school, family, and occupations; telling time; discussing schedules and dates; and expressing likes and dislikes.
5Formulate questions and distinguish functional phrases for talking about themselves and their families.
6Identify language comprehension by reading, reporting on, and or writing about short passages and translating basic sentences.
