Fall 2025 Instructors:

Focuses on teaching mathematics in the elementary school grades 3-6. Students learn what it means to teach mathematics interactionally using children's ideas, beliefs, and experiences as primary resources. Mathematical reasoning, problem solving, communication, and connections are foci.

Learning Outcomes

1Develop, apply, analyze, and evaluate strategies of teaching mathematics and their relationships to your beliefs and knowledge about how children learn mathematics.

2Know and analyze methods of assessing and responding to the needs of mathematics learners labeled in schools.

3Analyze and apply student's mathematical conceptual understanding and procedural knowledge to the development of problem-solving based mathematics lessons.

4Create and analyze instructional activities drawing from student's conceptual understanding and procedural knowledge as primary resources.
