Fall 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionThe goal of the course is for teacher candidates to understand how to choose and evaluate children's literature and media to use in the 3-6 classroom, develop ways to integrate literature and media throughout the curriculum, support students' understanding of literature and media using a variety of methods, select appropriate materials for individual student's needs, and assess students' learning.
Learning Outcomes1Evaluate both fiction and nonfiction resources for use in the classroom including identifying media which is broadly representative of the world in which we live.
2Determine cross-curricular connections, teaching ideas, and assessment methods of individual titles for use in the 3-6 classroom.
3Develop materials (i.e., graphic organizers, vocabulary activities, comprehension supports) to use with literature which may be differentiated for individual learner's needs.
4Research and develop a rationale for including social justice topics at part of the 3-6 curriculum.
