Course prepares students for teaching geography in powerful, exciting and innovative ways through a study of geographic concepts within the framework of inquiry design model (IDM) and an inquiry-based curriculum. Required for all Social Studies Education majors.

Learning Outcomes

1Develop knowledge of appropriate state and national geography standards.

2Use research and theory about how secondary students learn geography.

3Merge geographical content and process with pedagogy to forge pedagogical content knowledge.

4Plan standards-based powerful geography lessons.

5Utilize new understandings to draw conclusions about what constitutes powerful secondary geography teaching and learning.
