Fall 2025 Lecture Distance Learning Lower DivisionThis introductory course is designed to acquaint first year Learning Science students with the core concepts, principles, and research findings of the learning sciences as they apply to a wide range of formal and informal educational contexts. The course provides students with opportunities to interact with and learn about the scholarship of College of Education faculty who conduct research within the framework of the learning sciences. Students will learn about faculty projects that exemplify key features of the Learning Sciences such as attention to the complexity of learning environments, the study of social and cultural as well as individual dimensions of learning, and the cross-disciplinary nature of the field.
Learning Outcomes1Identify the features of education as a design discipline.
2Identify core principles, questions, and challenges, that define educational research and practice from a Learning Sciences perspective.
3Identify the varied sources of cross-disciplinary knowledge that contribute to the design and study of effective learning environments.
