Fall 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionThis course is the capstone course for the Special Education certificate and pathway. This course is designed to expose students to innovative strategies and best practices for promoting inclusive education. Students in this course will develop the habits of ongoing training and professional development to support the variety of student needs in inclusive general education classes.
Learning Outcomes1Describe shared instructional responsibility and the roles of school personnel who support the educational needs of students with disabilities.
2Provide equitable access to and participation in the general curriculum for students with disabilities.
3Know where to access current educational research that informs practice in the field.
4Understand their responsibility for implementing IEP's.
5Understand school policies regarding special education including those regarding referral, assessment, eligibility, and services for students with disabilities.
6Understand when to consult with others who possess specialized expertise.
7Understand students who have disabilities within the broader context of their families, cultural backgrounds, socioeconomic classes, languages, communities and peer/social groups.
8Reflect on practices.
