Fall 2025 LectureCore course focused on the major equine diseases and preventive medicine/herd health (biosecurity, vaccination, parasite control, dental disease). The course will cover pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment/management of these conditions or syndromes.
Learning Outcomes1List the names of the common diseases affecting equines, the causal agent(s) or predisposing/risk factors, and underlying mechanisms associated with these diseases.
2Create a differential diagnosis list and select suitable diagnostic procedures for problems affecting equines.
3Identify clinically relevant and practical management changes or therapies that are used to treat and control common diseases of equines.
4Formulate a biosecurity plan for a farm dealing with an outbreak of a contagious equine disease.
5Critically evaluate current literature and apply evidence-based medicine (EBM) to equine cases and clinical decision making.
