Fall 2025 Laboratory ClinicThis course is designed to allow students to develop competence in communication, husbandry, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills of veterinary medicine and surgery. In addition, instruction will be delivered in the areas of veterinary business, professionalism and health professional wellness. Instruction will be provided by online modules, hands-on laboratories using models, cadavers, and live animals, as well as, self-paced training in the veterinary skills lab. Students will also complete observational assignments and treatment duties in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Learning Outcomes1Demonstrate effective compassionate communication with clients about euthanasia.
2Demonstrate ability to pass nasoesophageal, nasogastric, orogastric, and esophageal feeders in various species.
3Demonstrate ability to safely perform enteral feeding with a syringe and syringe pump.
4Demonstrate ability to perform equine dental examination and dental float.
5Demonstrate ability to administer, monitor, and prepare transfusions with various blood products.
6Demonstrate ability to place intraosseous and multiple lumen jugular catheters in small animals.
7Demonstrate ability to perform urinary catheterization and use a closed urinary collection system.
8Demonstrate ability to perform a complete ophthalmic examination in dogs, cats, food animals, and horses.
9Demonstrate ability to perform a complete orthopedic examination in small animals.
10Demonstrate ability to monitor and observe patients and then record and report their medical observations.
11Demonstrate ability to complete patient care orders.
