Fall 2026 Instructors:
This seminar course will introduce students to the origin and evolution of Mars through reading classic papers on the geology, atmosphere, and Interior of Mars, as well as in-class lectures, discussions, and a final paper.
Learning Outcomes1Understand Mars as a planet.
2Understand the limits of human knowledge about the Red Planet, its potential for life, and its potential for sustaining humans in the future.
3Gain a basic understanding of the process of Mars exploration including landing site selection.
4Gain proficiency in reading scientific papers and in presenting scientific ideas in oral and written format.
