Fall 2025 Lecture Laboratory Recitation Lower DivisionHumanitiesThis course uses video games to demonstrate many of the fundamental problems of philosophy. To better understand the philosophical problems presented in text, students will watch online walkthroughs and live demonstrations of video games in class. Students will also engage with these problems through active learning by occasionally playing video games.
Learning Outcomes1Identify historical and contemporary philosophical problems by reading assigned texts, and viewing demonstrations of or playing video games.
2Demonstrate knowledge of the central ideas of major figures in the history of philosophy by participating in class activities and discussions, and through written assignments.
3Explain, defend and discuss complex philosophical ideas, theories, and perspectives in assigned texts and demonstrations of video games through in class activities, presentations, and written assignments.
4Critique and evaluate the significance of philosophical problems to the contemporary world, and potential responses to those problems, through in class activities, discussions, and written exam responses.
5Construct sound, well-reasoned arguments, and communicate them clearly by participating in class activities and discussions, and through written assignments.
