Fall 2025 Distance LearningThis course emphasizes theory and strategies for behavioral change relating to healthy lifestyles and specific health conditions. Analyses of major injury problems affecting patients in the workplace, community, at home, and in activity along with basic principles of nutrition and exercise as they pertain to individual health and activity are included. Prerequisite: HK 53500 with a grade of B- or better. Permission of department required.
Learning Outcomes1Develop and implement strategies to mitigate the risk for long-term health conditions across the lifespan.
2Develop, implement, and assess the effectiveness of programs to reduce injury risk.
3Plan and implement a comprehensive pre-participation examination process to affect health outcomes.
4Develop, implement, and supervise comprehensive programs to maximize sport performance that are safe and specific to the clients activity.
5Educate and make recommendations to clients/patients on fluids and nutrients to ingest prior to activity, during activity, and during recovery for a variety of activities and environmental conditions.
6Educate clients/patients about the effects, participation consequences, and risks of misuse and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, performance-enhancing drugs/substances, and over-the-counter, prescription, and recreational drugs.
