Fall 2025 Distance Learning Lecture Upper DivisionProvides students with foundational knowledge and skills for the prevention, recognition, and management of common athletic injuries and illnesses, as well as emergency conditions encountered by sports medicine professionals.
Learning Outcomes1Identify basic components of an athletic injury/illness prevention program.
2Acquire knowledge related to athletic protective equipment and prophylactic braces.
3Develop an understanding of the physiological effects of injury in order to provide proper treatment and care.
4Develop practical knowledge of the mechanisms, signs, and associative anatomy for common athletic injuries associated with the upper extremity, lower extremity, head, spine, and thorax.
5Develop practical knowledge related to the recognition and treatment of environmental conditions. This will include an understanding of appropriate hydration requirements for physical activity.
6Develop an understanding of the acute care and emergency management of athletic injuries.
