Fall 2025 Instructors:

This course will explore the normal functioning of the respiratory system, along with a variety of diseases and disorders affecting this system. Special emphasis will be placed upon diseases which result from, or are aggravated by, environmental pollutants. The course will begin with discussing the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system. Individual lung disorders will then be discussed with consideration of the sources of air pollution contaminants and the interaction of those contaminants with normal lung tissue.

1Describe the normal anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system.

2Identify the lung volumes and how lung volumes relate to lung capacities.

3Describe the pathophysiology of major types of lung disorders.

4Relate lung disorders to air pollution contaminants.
