This course will provide a discussion about diseases affecting the heart and cardiovascular system. The normal anatomy and physiology of the heart and blood vessels with be discussed. Various diseases of the heart and vasculature, including atherosclerosis, cardiomyopathies, valvular heart disease, hypertension, and stroke will be explored. Included in the discussion of each disease process will be environmental agents, which are associated with disease development and progression.

1Describe the normal anatomy of the hear.

2Discuss the cardiac steps of the cardiac cycle.

3Describe disease processes of the heart and blood vessels.

4Identify environmental exposures associated with an increased risk of heart disease.
