Study of soils and foundations in the construction projects. Topics include, fundamental soil engineering theories, properties of soils, soil classification, compaction, permeability, stress, shear strength, consolidation, and bearing capacity.

Learning Outcomes

1Understand, apply, and analyze fundamentals of geotechnical engineering and construction techniques associated with various types of soil conditions.

2Conduct various soil lab testing and create lab reports.

3Use the knowledge of soils and foundation engineering and applications to: create lab reports as written communication; analyze engineering properties of soils; analyze different soil types and field exploration; analyze soil compaction; analyze permeability of water in soils; analyze subsurface stress, consolidation, and shear strength of soil; analyze shallow and deep foundation load, design, and construction; analyze lateral earth pressure and retaining wall structure.
