This course will provide students with knowledge and skills related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and provide students an opportunity to actively increase their cultural competence to help them work with others effectively in professional settings. The course provides frameworks, terminology, and tools for engaging in productive conversations around difficult topics related to DEI. Students use critical and reflective thinking, as well as effective problem solving to create inclusive experiences for all stakeholders.

Learning Outcomes

1Define and apply terminology and concepts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

2Develop awareness and knowledge of DEI best practices to create inclusive experiences for all stakeholders.

3Demonstrate an understanding of issues related to DEI within the White Lodging-J.W. Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management disciplines.

4Engage in inclusive and interdisciplinary collaborations.

5Apply best practices to address and propose solutions to current DEI topics within students' academic disciplines.

6Demonstrate effective oral, written, and visual communication.
