Fall 2025 Lecture Distance Learning Credit By ExaminationUpper DivisionIntroduces health behavior theory and practice in the context of health promotion and education. Examines individual, interpersonal, and community approaches to explaining and predicting health behavior and emphasizes their application to interventions in health promotion and education.
Learning Outcomes1Identify basic theories, concepts and models from a range of social and behavioral disciplines that are used in public health research and practice.
2Apply different health behavior theories and models in the U.S. and internationally to important public health issues such as tobacco use, physical inactivity, poor diet, etc.
3Identify the causes of social and behavioral factors that affect health of individuals and populations.
4Describe the role of social and community factors in both the onset and solution of public health problems.
5Specify multiple targets and levels of intervention for social and behavioral science programs and/or policies.
6Understand theoretical constructs from an ecological perspective; Understand theories and models relevant at multiple levels of behavioral influence, including the individual, interpersonal, community, and organizational levels.
