This course will provide the opportunity to examine and analyze the financing, organization and delivery of health care in the U.S. and how these core elements are shaped and influenced by health care policy and decision-making.

Learning Outcomes

1Describe the role of policy, law and government relations in health care and public health.

2Explain how federal, state, and local health policy is made.

3Identify and critique the difference between population health and individual health.

4Explain the policy interests between the public good (public health) and individual rights.

5Explain the organization of the health care system, including principles and examples of health insurance and health care finance.

6Describe health care policy formulation and implementation.

7Explain and apply health policy principles to the policy topics discussed in class.
